As I was driving home a few weeks ago, I tried to get in front of a car, but the driver wouldn’t let me pass. The next car did, so I got in front of it — only to find myself driving behind someone going very slowly, well below the speed limit.
At first, I felt a bit frustrated, and I asked the Lord, “What are You trying to teach me in this moment?”For a while, there was silence, and the slow car continued on its way.
Then, I heard these gentle words in my heart:
“When you are in a hurry, I will sometimes send something to slow you down — not to stop you, but to work on you.”
That moment hit me deeply. Sometimes the delays in our journey aren’t meant to punish us but to prepare us. God uses them to refine our patience, build our trust, and remind us that His timing is perfect.
After a few minutes, the car turned off the road, and I was free to continue driving. Then I heard the Lord say again,
“When I’m ready, I’ll move that obstacle out of your way — and you’ll move forward faster than the limits the world has set for you.”
I continued driving, and soon enough, there was another slow car ahead of me. I smiled this time and asked again, “Lord, what are You saying now?”
He reminded me of Psalm 23:4 —
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.”
God never promised a journey free of obstacles or delays. He never said we’d always move quickly or easily. But He did promise that He would be with us — through every slowdown, every valley, and every moment of waiting.
So now, when life slows me down, I remember: it’s not a punishment, it’s preparation. God is still in control of the pace.
Scriptures to Reflect On
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”— Isaiah 55:8–9
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” — Habakkuk 2:3
Closing thought
The next time you find yourself stuck behind something that feels like it’s slowing you down, take a deep breath and thank God for it. He might just be protecting you, teaching you, or preparing you for a pace you couldn’t yet handle. His timing is never late — it’s always loving.
Reflection Prayer
Father,
Thank You for loving me enough to slow me down when I rush ahead.
When life feels delayed or uncertain, remind me that Your timing is never wrong.
Teach me to see Your purpose in the pauses and Your hand in every obstacle.
Help me rest in the truth that You are working, even when I can’t see it.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
