One night, I suddenly woke up around 4 a.m. I heard God clearly say, “Sing songs of praise and thanksgiving.”
There I was—sleepy, tired, confused, and honestly thinking, “Lord… at this hour?”
But I’ve learned something on this journey: obey God even when the instruction sounds foolish.
So I sang. Quietly. Sleepily. But I obeyed. And afterwards, I went back to bed.
The next morning, my son came to tell me he had seen two ambulances in front of our house. We didn’t know whose home they went to, so I made a mental note to check on my Nigerian neighbours later.
An hour later, during the school run, we noticed only one ambulance was still there—with a flat tyre. We didn’t think much of it.
Forty minutes later, my neighbour sent me a video, and my heart froze.
The ambulance—parked right next to my house—was on fire. Fully engulfed. Flames everywhere. Firefighters rushing in and battling the blaze. The entire ambulance burned to the ground.
Yet my home—my driveway—everything around us remained untouched.
Not a scorch mark.
Not even the smell of smoke.
In that moment, God brought a Scripture to my spirit:
“A thousand may fall at your side,
and ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.” — Psalm 91:7
What if the praise He asked for at 4 a.m. wasn’t random?
What if thanksgiving was the shield that went before us?
What if obedience—no matter how small—was the covering?
That day, I understood something deeply:
Praise is protection. Obedience is safety. God’s instructions are never without purpose.
Scriptures to Reflect On
“He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” — Psalm 91:11
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” — Proverbs 18:10
“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:6
Closing Thought
Sometimes God wakes you—not to inconvenience you—but to cover you.
Your worship can build walls you cannot see.
Your obedience can cancel attacks you never knew were coming.
Reflection Prayer
Father,
Thank You for protecting me even when I am unaware of the danger.
Teach me to obey instantly, even when I don’t understand.
Cover my home, my family, and everything connected to me.
Thank You for being my shield, my refuge, and my protector.
Emi Mímọ, ẹṣe — Holy Spirit, thank You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
