Thank You, God….In Advance!

by

My son did something recently that really touched my heart. He came up to me and said,

“Thank you, Mama.”

Before I could even ask what he was thanking me for, I noticed he had already sent a request to my phone for more time on one of his favourite apps, Scratch.

Because he had thanked me in advance, it was almost impossible to say no. His gratitude softened my heart, and I joyfully granted his request.

In that moment, God whispered to me:

“Do you see how happy you felt when your son thanked you before even asking? How much more do I, your Heavenly Father, delight when you thank Me in advance?”

That simple interaction reminded me of the power of gratitude — not just after we receive something, but before. Thankfulness is an act of faith that says,

“Lord, I trust You completely.”

Scriptures to Reflect On

  • “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” — Philippians 4:6
  • “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
  • “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.” — Psalm 100:4

A Word for You

Gratitude moves hearts. It softens resistance, opens doors, and creates space for favour. If a simple “thank you” from a child could melt my heart, imagine how much more your Heavenly Father delights when you thank Him in advance — even before the answer comes.

Faith and gratitude are partners. When you thank God before receiving, you are declaring that you trust His timing, provision, and plan, even when the situation seems uncertain.

Closing Thought

Next time you find yourself waiting, praying, or hoping, try thanking God in advance.

Not because you’ve already received, but because He is faithful and His heart delights in your trust.

Gratitude opens the heart of a parent — and surely it opens the heart of your Heavenly Father.

Reflection Prayer

Father,

Thank You for reminding me that gratitude opens the door to Your presence.

Teach me to thank You not only after I receive, but even before the answer comes.

Help me to trust that every “thank You” whispered in faith moves Your heart.

May my life be a daily song of gratitude — not for what You do, but for who You are.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Faith and Gratitude are indeed partners” — to stay grateful is to trust the outcome and its giver!
