Sometimes life gives you a tiny crack that ends up teaching you a much bigger lesson — and for me, it all started with a chipped tooth.
As a child, I remember running into my family friend Jamila’s house after school, falling flat on my face, and chipping a tooth. That tiny moment began a long journey of dental issues that followed me into adulthood. For years, I moved from dentist to dentist — temporary fixes, patch-ups, and solutions that looked good on the surface but never lasted.
Fast forward many years and many attempts later, I finally heard a dentist say:
“There’s not enough foundation left. If this fails again, you will need implants.”
And of course… it failed again. Honestly, at that point, I wondered if my teeth were plotting against me.
That was how my implant journey began — and how God began to show me something deeper.
A Simple Picture of Implants
I won’t bore you with dental science, but here’s the part that matters:
The weak root is removed
A titanium screw is placed deep into the jaw
You wait months for the bone to heal and grow around it
Only then can the permanent crown be added
It’s painful at first (painkillers, where are you?), slow, and uncomfortable. Just when you think you’re done, another appointment pops up. Nothing beautiful can be placed on top until what is underneath is strong enough to hold it.
Just like the titanium screw has to settle into the jaw before the crown can be placed, God often works behind the scenes to strengthen what is unseen before revealing the beauty on the surface.
The Lesson God Whispered
On the final day — after more than a year of appointments and healing — God said to me:
“I am rebuilding your foundation. You’ve spent years looking for quick fixes while avoiding the root. Let Me rebuild you from the inside out. Stop running to people for validation. Look to Me.”
And then this truth settled in my spirit:
If a human dentist knows how to rebuild a failing foundation, how much more will God rebuild the broken places in your life — perfectly!
God wasn’t just healing my tooth. He was healing me — deeply, quietly, and patiently.
A Word for You
If your life feels like a series of temporary fixes… if you feel like you’re patching things instead of healing… if you’re tired of going in circles…
Maybe God is saying:
“Let Me rebuild your foundation.”
It may take time. It may feel messy. There may be “temporary crowns” while He works. But when God rebuilds you, you become unshakeable.
Remember: your cracks and failures aren’t the end—they’re just the beginning of a foundation God is perfecting.
Scriptures to Reflect On
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” — Isaiah 43:19
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1
“The God of all grace… will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” — 1 Peter 5:10
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
Closing Thought
Sometimes God allows everything weak to fall apart so He can rebuild you into someone strong, whole, and beautiful — from the foundation up.
Reflection Prayer
Father,
Thank You for caring enough to rebuild my foundation.
Expose every weak place.
Remove everything that cannot carry my future.
Strengthen me, establish me, and rebuild me from the inside out.
Help me trust Your process, even when it feels slow or uncomfortable.
Make my life secure in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
